Swimmer Summer McIntosh has issued a statement to rivals, including New Zealand's Erika Fairweather

Swimmer Summer McIntosh has issued a statement to rivals, including New Zealand's Erika Fairweather

The 17-year-old Canadian has clocked a time of three minutes 59.06 seconds in the 400 metres freestyle at the Olympic trials in Toronto, eclipsing world champion Fairweather's best mark for the calendar year by 0.38 of a second.

The discipline looms as one of the most anticipated events at the Paris Games pool with McIntosh, Fairweather, world-record holder Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky in the field.

The quartet make up four of the five female swimmers to dip under four minutes for the distance.
