Fire and Emergency is urging the public to take extra care with controlled burns

Fire and Emergency is urging the public to take extra care with controlled burns

A controlled burn turned into a fire, and blazed through six hectares in Waiwhare near Napier overnight.

Helicopters have remained onsite to help extinguish it today.

Acting district manager Jason Hill says while the owner followed correct protocols, it's a good reminder to exercise caution.

He says to check weather conditions and to have water hoses or water sprayers nearby.
