A new app is set to help truck drivers navigate the alternate Picton to Christchurch route.
The TruckR app will let truck drivers, travelling via the Lewis Pass, know where to stop for rest breaks, fuel and trailer swap areas, among other features.
The app's been created to improve safety for truck drivers using the alternate route, which has become the main highway since the Kaikoura earthquake, in November, closed sections of State Highway 1 (SH1).
TruckR will be trialled by the freight industry for three months, with plans underway to include SH1 along the Kaikoura coast once it is reopened.
TruckR App Features
* Food stops, public toilets and truck stops
* Trailer swaps
* Truck repairs
* Single lane bridges
* Passing lanes and stopping bays
* Cellphone coverage.
