    Bus and train drivers deliver petition

    A petition decrying cuts to bus and train services in Auckland will be handed to Auckland Transport.

    Auckland Transport will have a good indication of the frustration of bus drivers and train managers when two petitions are delivered on Friday.

    The petitions, signed by tens of thousands of concerned passengers, will be delivered to Auckland councillor Mike Lee in the morning.

    Phil Morgan, spokesman for union Bus Drivers First, says thousands of drivers have suffered wage cuts and lost their job security due to decisions made by the Auckland Transport board.

    "The cuts have forced experienced drivers out of the industry," he said.

    "Our passengers overwhelmingly support us."

    John Kerr, from the Rail and Maritime Transport Union, says train managers are equally frustrated with Auckland Transport's operating model.

    "Passengers on train services are upset that Auckland Transport is proposing to remove the train managers that help keep passengers safe," Mr Kerr said.
