    An influx of seasonal workers could be behind big rent hikes in Queenstown

    Trade Me's latest rental price index shows the median rent in Queenstown has jumped 12.9 percent since January, making it the most expensive area in the country at $790 a week.

    Trade Me Property head Nigel Jeffries says the jump is quite substantial.

    He says to some degree it's seasonal, with an influx of winter workers putting a lot of demand on limited housing in the area.
