Coroner finds three young people killed in 2014 Hamilton house fire died from smoke inhalation

23-year-old Toni Johnston, 19-year-old Jake Hayes and 17-year-old Connor Sweetman all died in the blaze at a house party in Collingwood Street just before 5am.

The coroners report states the fire started in a couch in the downstairs lounge, while the victims were upstairs, but the cause of the fire remains a mystery.

Coroner Gordon Matenga has praised the "selfless and courageous" actions of two heroes who undoubtedly saved other people's lives in the fatal fire.

Thirty-two people had been at the party.
