No formal complaint laid over Garrett comment

ACT MP David Garrett's been reprimanded over an apparent lewd comment made to a fellow staff member; no formal complaint made

    21 June 2009
Rodney Hide says no formal complaint has been made about an apparently lewd comment ACT MP David Garrett made to a female staff member.

Mr Garrett is one of the drivers behind ACT's three strikes policy.

Another parliamentary staff member approached the ACT party leader, concerned about Mr Garrett's conduct. Mr Hide says the woman suggested the comment was made in jest but he thinks it was off-colour.

Mr Hide says Mr Garrett has since apologised to him and the woman he made the comment to and promised to lift his standards. Mr Hide says he has told her any complaint to him will be acted on, but no complaint has been taken.

Mr Hide says David Garrett has been told the standard of behaviour appropriate in the locker on an oil rig is not appropriate as an MP.
