Stripping Price of captaincy about "change"

However CEO Wayne Scurrah says Steve Price has been replaced by Simon Mannering as captain because it is time for change

    4 November 2009 - article from www.rugbyleague.co.nz

Simon Mannering has been appointed Warriors captain for the 2010 NRL season, replacing Steve Price.

Price had captained the side for five seasons and will stay with the team in the mean time.

However CEO Wayne Scurrah says the club has ruled it is time for a change and Mannering is the answer.

"He's got an amazing attitude. I mean he clearly plays nearly every game and plays nearly 80 minutes for every game. So, you know, having the captain that's on the field - I mean they're the sorts of things you look at. He's got the utmost respect from everyone at the club, including his teammates."

Mannering made his first-grade debut against Brisbane in 2005 and, after a belated start to the 2006 season, went on to make 92 consecutive appearances. A knee injury stopped his run late this year.

Mannering is the ninth player to be officially appointed captain since the club's arrival in 1995.
