    Confirmation fire victim was Sir Don Beaven

    A coroner says 85-year-old Sir Don Beaven died of smoke inhalation in a fire at a bach on Banks Peninsula

    It has been confirmed the body found in the remains of a burnt bach on Banks Peninsula is that of Sir Don Beaven.

    Regional Coroner Sue Johnson says provisional post-mortem findings indicate the 85-year-old died of smoke inhalation.

    The Coroner has opened an inquiry in the cause and circumstance of Sir Don's death and the Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire.

    Sir Don Beaven was renowned for his work with diabetes in New Zealand and throughout the world.
