    Manhunt continues across Wellington

Wellington police are continuing to search Wellington and the Hutt Valley for a man who pointed a handgun at an officer

    5 November 2009
Police and the Armed Offenders Squad are searching properties in Wellington and the Hutt Valley for a man brandishing a gun.

Police say the man pointed a handgun at an officer during a routine check on Rata Rd this morning.

Around 40 police and AOS members are investigating, and have implemented search warrants around the region.

Inspector Geoff Gwynn says the offender is known to police.

Stephanie Fry from Celcius Coffee on Rata St says police have been swarming the area.

Rata Street School was put into lock down shortly after the incident happened.

A school spokeswoman says classes have now returned to normal and there is little police activity.
