    Seventh prov title for Canty

Canterbury win their 7th provincial rugby title with a 28-20 win over Wellington in Air New Zealand Cup final

    7 November 2009
Canterbury have won their seventh provincial rugby title with a 28-20 win over Wellington in the Air New Zealand Cup final in Christchurch.

Fullback Colin Slade has been a standout player with two first half tries helping Canterbury to an 18-3 halftime advantage.

An intercept try to Alapati Leuia brought the Lions back into the match midway through the second half before the red and blacks struck back immediately through winger Sean Maitland.

A try to Scott Fuglistaller while Slade was sinbinned made for some tense final moments before Stephen Brett sealed the victory with a late penalty.

It is Wellington's fourth straight loss in the final.
