Tsunami risk slight following quake
Magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes island of Sumbawa posing small risk of tsunami striking Indonesia
9 November 2009
There is a small risk of a tsunami striking Indonesia.
A 6.7 magnitude earthquake has shaken the island of Sumbawa. US observers say the quake occurred eight kilometres northwest of Raba at a depth of 18 kilometres.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre is ruling out the risk of a widespread destructive tsunami based on historical data, but it says there is a chance the quake could trigger a very small tsunami hitting coasts within 100 kilometres of the epicentre.
