A stomach bug outbreak has prompted a reminder to parents, that their children should not be allowed to swim in public pools within two weeks of having diarrhoea.
Canterbury DHB is trying to track down of the source of the cryptosporidium outbreak, with 57 confirmed cases in the area so far this year.
The parasite causes severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea, and can last from a few days to several weeks.
Medical officer of health Dr Ramon Pink says the warning is especially important at this time of year, with fine weather and schools holding their swimming sports days.
