A group of New Zealanders is attempting to break the world jet ski record by riding from London to Auckland.
Auckland adventurer Jeremy Burfoot is leading the the 32,000 kilometre journey which starts in August. The challenge is aimed at boosting awareness of healthy living and cancer prevention.
Mr Burfoot says the group also wants to raise funds for cancer research and he is motivated by his own battle with the disease. The team will be working with cancer organisations in each country they pass through to help raise the profile of the event and its goals.
Mr Burfoot says a tremendous challenge is ahead.
"The London-to-Sydney journey has been made famous by all kinds of intrepid travellers, though none have tried it on a personal watercraft. The eyes of the world will be on this attempt.
"The ultimate joy for me would be to get the message about early prevention of cancer, and the need for regular health checks, out to as many people around the world as possible."
Mr Burfoot was the first person to circumnavigate New Zealand in a jet ski, also to raise funds for cancer research.
