The pavements along Auckland's waterfront are taking a pounding this morning.
Seventy thousand people have signed up for the Round the Bays fun run. When it first started in 1972, just 1200 people took part.
Runners begin at 9am on Quay St between Tinley St and the Strand Overbridge. They cross the finish line 8.4 kilometres later on the waterfront at St Heliers Bay.
Money raised goes to Ronald McDonald House, the Waitemata Harbour Clean-Up Trust and Fairfax First Books.
