Daniel Craig has signed up for ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’.
The British actor – who is best known for the role of James Bond in ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Quantum of Solace’ – will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in a Hollywood adaptation of the novel by Stieg Larsson.
The 42-year-old star will begin work on the film in Sweden soon after finishing work on ‘Cowboys and Aliens’, which is currently shooting in the US, according to Deadline.com.
Director David Fincher and producer Scott Rudin are still to announce the actress who will play opposite Craig as Lisbeth Salander, with possibilities believed to be Ellen Page, Mia Wasikowska and Rooney Mara.
The movie is expected to arrive in cinemas in December 2011, with possible follow-up movies including ‘The Girl Who Played with Fire’ and ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest’.
Craig has plenty of time on his hands as production on the 23rd James Bond film has been halted due to financing problems with studio MGM. It is not yet known when he will next take up the role.
