The Deep Blue Sea to close London Film Festival

Terence Davies' 'The Deep Blue Sea' starring Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston will close this year's London Film Festival in October.

'The Deep Blue Sea' will close this year's London Film Festival.

The movie – an adaptation of Terence Rattigan's classic play – tells the story of forbidden love and repressed desire in post-war Britain, and stars Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston.

Terence Davies, who directs the film, admitted he was delighted at the film's selection.

He said: "As a British filmmaker, to get into the BFI London Film Festival at all is bliss – to get a closing night film is sheer heaven!

"The festival is now, rightly, seen as one of the major European and World Film Festival; championing not only British but world cinema."

Festival artistic director Sandra Hebron added the movie was "beautifully directed and acted".

She said: "It's a great pleasure to be able to close the festival with this exquisite new feature from one of our most cherished directors.

"Terence Davies is a filmmaker who the BFI has supported from the very beginnings of his career, and in Terence Rattigan's centenary year, this beautifully directed and acted film is the perfect closing night film."

It is the second film starring Rachel Weisz to be involved in the festival – '360', which stars Rachel and Jude Law, will be opening this year's event.

The London Film Festival runs from October 12 to 27.
