Channing Tatum to star in White House Down?

Channing Tatum is set to star in 'White House Down', in which he will play a Secret Service agent who has to save the president.

Channing Tatum is set to star in 'White House Down'.

The 'Magic Mike' actor is in talks to play a Secret Service agent who must act when the White House comes under attack in the Roland Emmerich-directed action thriller.

Channing's character - who is a single father - must save the president when 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is taken over by paramilitary group.

'Zodiac' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man' writer James Vanderbilt has penned the screenplay, with production expected to start later this year for a 2013 release.

'White House Down' would be the second upcoming action film about the White House, after 'Olympus Has Fallen', which is set to star Gerard Butler.

Channing - who plays a stripper in 'Magic Mike' - is currently filming Steven Soderbergh's 'The Bitter Pill', and can soon be seen in crime thriller 'Foxcatcher' opposite Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo.

He is also considering a role in the Wachowskis' sci-fi drama 'Jupiter Ascending', and is producing a Peter Pan remake titled 'Neverland'.
