Abbie Cornish is being lined up to star in 'Robocop'

The 'W.E.' actress is in talks to join the cast which includes Samuel L. Jackson, Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman in the remake of the 1987 action film.

Cornish is in line to star as Mrs. Murphy, who is led to believe her police officer husband Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is dead having been killed in the line of duty.

However, what she doesn't know is he has been brought back to life as the cyborg law-enforcer Robocop, by a scientist played by Oldman, who will find himself torn between a callous company and the machine.

Last week it was revealed Jackson would play "charismatic media mogul" Pat Novak.

The movie is due to begin shooting in Toronto, Canada, this September and scheduled to be released next summer although the storyline for the film is still being kept secret.

Jose Padilha will direct the motion picture, with Marc Abraham and Eric Newman in line to produce.

The original film starred Peter Weller in the lead role and Nancy Allen as his partner, Lewis, and took more than $60m at the box office.
