    Hareb knocked out in quarters

NZ surfer Paige Hareb lost to former world champion Carissa Moore at the US Open, but has still qualified for next year's women's surfing world tour.

New Zealand surfer Paige Hareb has been knocked out of the US Open, comprehensively beaten in her quarter-final by former world champion Carissa Moore at Huntington Beach in California overnight (NZT).

Moore's 15.10 was well clear of Hareb, who could only manage 8.60 after her fourth-round high 14.87 the previous day put her through to the last eight.

Hareb's finish meant she qualified for the 2013 ASP world tour for the fourth year on end.
