An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a car while crossing a road in the Auckland suburb of Mt Wellington.
The 86-year-old local woman was crossing Penrose Road near the Countdown Supermarket when she was struck by a red Toyota hatchback about 1.30pm on Wednesday, a statement from police says.
The woman was taken to Auckland City Hospital but died in the evening.
Police want to speak to the driver of a truck who was near the accident when it happened.
