Buildup has NZ under-19 cricketers upbeat

Winning three from four buildup matches has given the New Zealand under-19 cricket team a boost of confidence ahead of their World Cup campaign.

New Zealand are taking a confident attitude into their under-19 cricket World Cup campaign starting in Queensland, Australia on Sunday.

Winning three of their four matches was a boost, according to co-coaches and former Black Caps Paul Wiseman and Matt Horne ahead of the match against Scotland on the Sunshine Coast.

The other pool matches are against Afghanistan on Tuesday and Pakistan on Thursday.

New Zealand's buildup was completed this week with a 19-run win over Nepal, which followed other practice match successes against Scotland by 116 runs and the West Indies by five wickets. Their sole loss was against South Africa by six wickets.

"It's great to get a couple of wins under the belt which should help the boys go into the group stages with a bit of confidence," Wiseman said.

"We've learnt a lot already from our matches, but still have a long way to go to achieve what we have set out to do."

Three-time champions Australia are the defending champions.
