    Shadrock appeals second conviction

The man who ran down a woman in a car park after stealing her bag is appealing his second conviction for the crime.

Christopher Shadrock, the man retried at the High Court for the murder of Joanne Wang at a supermarket carpark in South Auckland in 2008, is appealing his conviction.

Shadrock was retried after successfully appealing his first murder conviction for the crime. He was found guilty at the retrial and the previous life sentence was reimposed.

The Court of Appeal confirmed to NZ Newswire that an appeal has been lodged.

The Crown argued that Shadrock ran down Ms Wang after stealing her handbag.

Ms Wang chased after Shadrock and positioned herself in front of the car. Shadrock then accelerated and drove towards Ms Wang, hitting her as he escaped.

The defence argued that Shadrock never had murderous intent, and the chance Mrs Wang could die never entered into his mind.
