Junior Warriors fined after hotel incident

Eight players from the Warriors under-20 team have been fined and face further sanctions after an alcohol-fuelled party where hotel rooms were damaged.

Several players from the New Zealand Warriors' under-20 team have been disciplined after a raucous Saturday night in three Sydney hotel rooms.

Eight players reportedly damaged a number of rooms at the Holiday Inn at Mascot after losing their finals clash with the Sydney Roosters earlier that day.

The players were fined after breaching the team's strict no-alcohol policy and face further sanctions, Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah says.

"We've spoken to everyone in the team. We've dealt with the matter and we're continuing to deal with it," Scurrah said.

"We've also been in contact with the hotel and have apologised for what happened. All matters relating to the incident have been satisfactorily resolved with the hotel."

Scurrah told Sydney radio host Ray Hadley that the players had a party and made an unacceptable amount of noise.

"Certainly they've made a mess - there are some isotonic drink stains on bed spreads, there was a lamp broken and they have generally messed up the room. But there has been no walls kicked in or doors broken down."

The hotel's duty manager called police but Scurrah said they'd told him no further action would be taken.

He said the club insisted on reimbursing room charges to the three complainants as well as covering cleaning and damage costs.

"We've never had an incident like this involving our NYC (under 20) team. We expect the highest standards from our players, which makes this even more disappointing."
