Bauer pulls out of world champs road race

Hayden Roulston and Julian Dean need a new road race team-mate at the cycling world championships after Jack Bauer withdrew from event.

New Zealand cyclist Jack Bauer has cited fatigue as he pulled out of the world championships road race in the Netherlands.

Bauer told roadcycling.co.nz he had lost form since his creditable 10th place finish at the Olympic road race in London nearly two months ago.

His struggles continued in the team time trial event earlier this week at the world championships in Limburg.

"After the TTT, I simply decided to withdraw myself because of fatigue," Bauer said.

"I have been struggling to find form since the Olympics and have decided I'm not where I need to be to help the team."

New Zealand's registered reserves are Jesse Sergent and George Bennett, and one of them is expected to replace Bauer in the three-man team, joining veteran pair Hayden Roulston and Julian Dean.
