A New Zealander who returned to Singapore after jumping bail on an assault charge has reappeared in court.
Former Junior Tall Black basketballer Robert Stephen Dahlberg, 35, was arrested along with Australian Nathan Robert Miller, 36, and Briton Robert James Springall, 25, for an assault in July last year following a brawl at Suntec City in 2010.
The trio were understood to be drunk when they allegedly abused two taxi drivers and two taxi passengers, the Straits Times reports.
Arrest warrants were issued for Dahlberg and Springall after both absconded from the country, while Miller pleaded guilty in February and was sentenced to three weeks' jail.
Dahlberg, from Nelson, voluntarily returned to Singapore earlier this month and was arrested upon his return.
He has apologised to Paul Louis Liew Kai Ming, a victim of the attack, and offered to pay his medical expenses.
In a statement, Dahlberg's family said he reappeared in court on Friday, and the judge agreed to another adjournment until September 27 so discussions could continue between Dahlberg, his lawyer, and the prosecution.
Dahlberg was further remanded in custody in Changi Remand Prison.
Members of his family were likely to return to Singapore for his next court appearance.
Dahlberg's father, Bill Dahlberg, said his son was "very sorry" for Mr Liew's injuries and hopes the legal process will bring him closure.
Dahlberg was working as a broker in Singapore at the time of the attack.
