Ellie Goulding played ex-boyfriend songs she wrote about split

Ellie Goulding played her ex boyfriend the songs she wrote about their split so he wouldn't hear them for the first time on the radio.

The 'Starry Eyed' singer dated Radio 1 DJ Greg James for 18 months but separated from him late last year blaming work commitments and while their break-up partly inspired her latest record, she still tried to be sympathetic to his feelings.

She told The Sun newspaper: "The last record I felt like I was singing about stuff like that and I thought it was really sincere but I listen back and I think, God that was really naive, that was nothing.

"This time it's the real deal. There's stuff about Greg. I played it to him because I felt that was better than him hearing it randomly somewhere."

Ellie also revealed she started dating American dubstep DJ Skrillex - whose real name is Sonny Moore - after she flew out on impulse to meet him in Memphis, Tennessee.

She explained: "I met him because we emailed for a bit and we did a track together then we met in Memphis. I was out there for something, I remember out of impulse just getting on a flight and going to Memphis.

"Nothing happened or anything, but I hung out with him and his friends and just had the best night ever. That was kind of the beginning really. He is a lovely guy, he really is."
