Police investigating the death of man in an Auckland sleepout say the victim lived a quiet life and didn't deserve to suffer a violent death.
The 55-year-old's body was discovered on Friday and police believe he was attacked in the converted garage he lived in on Great South Road in Manurewa.
An autopsy confirmed he died from head injuries.
"Police investigations so far indicate that there is nothing that warrants this innocent member of the community having to suffer such a violent death," police said in a statement.
"The victim was living a normal, routine, quiet life."
The man, whose name is yet to be made public, has family connections in the UK.
Police are appealing to the local community to come forward with any information of suspicious activity around the property between Thursday morning and 10am on Friday morning.
The property is close to a busy intersection and a team of police have been talking to residents in the area and members of the community.
