NZ reach semis at Gold Coast sevens

New Zealand are into the semi-finals of the Gold Coast sevens after a hard-fought 12-7 quarter-final win over Argentina.

New Zealand have battled their way to the semi-finals of the Gold Coast international rugby sevens after a hard-fought quarter-final win over Argentina.

The Kiwis overcame a 7-5 halftime deficit to claim a 12-7 win with captain DJ Forbes' second-half try the difference in a tight contest.

Gareth Williams-Spiers opened the scoring for the Kiwis five minutes into the first-half before a deft chip and chase after the siren allowed Santiago Cordero to go over for the Pumas.

Gaston Revol converted to put Argentina ahead but Forbes' bullocking run at the line just two minutes into the second term was enough to seal the victory.

New Zealand will take on the winner of Australia and Kenya's quarter-final for a spot in Sunday evening's decider.
