A man involved in a fatal dinghy capsize last week is wanted by police for allegedly breaching his home detention conditions.
Tauranga man Liam Kane, 22, was last seen on the evening of October 16, after he and three others allegedly stole a dinghy that later capsized in Tauranga Harbour.
He and two others made it ashore, but their friend, Shaun Hogarth, had been missing since the capsize until his body was recovered from the harbour on Thursday morning.
Police say Kane asked a member of the public to call emergency services on the night of the capsize, but then disappeared.
He is believed to be deliberately evading police, who want to hear from anyone with information on his whereabouts.
Kane was described as Caucasian, of a small, solid build with short dark hair.
The other two survivors, aged 22 and 25, are due to reappear in Tauranga District Court on Friday charged with theft of the dinghy.
