    Motorcyclist killed north of Dunedin

    A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash north of Dunedin, the second rider killed in the South Island over the weekend.


    A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a truck near Palmerston, north of Dunedin.

    The accident happened on State Highway 1 at Shag Point near Palmerston on Sunday afternoon, police said.

    The road would be closed for two hours while the scene was cleared, they said.

    It was the second fatal motorcycle crash in the South Island over the weekend.

    On late Saturday afternoon, a 56-year-old Takaka man was killed in a collision with a car between Nelson and Motueka.
