Forty firefighters were needed to control a large industrial fire in Hamilton.

Dallas Ramsay of Fire Service communications says the building at ARNZ Repairs was well ablaze when firefighters arrived about 5.30pm on Saturday.

Twelve fire vehicles, manned by 40 firefighters, were needed to deal with the blaze, Ms Ramsay said.

The fire was under control by 7pm.
