Elisabeth Moss says the ending of 'Mad Men' hit her "like a tonne of bricks"

The 32-year-old actress - who plays Peggy Olson in the advertising drama - admits she was surprised to be so deeply affected filming her final scenes for the series as she and her castmates had known for some time it would end after season seven.

She admitted to the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: "You kind of think you prepare for something for so many months, and frankly for a couple of years, because we've known that season seven would be the last one.

"So you think, we gotta be ready for it, right? And then it just hits you like a tonne of bricks. You have this reaction like, 'What is wrong with me? It's just a TV show!' But you kind of can't help it."

Elisabeth was particularly "moved" when she saw her co-star John Slattery, who plays advertising firm founder Roger Stirling, register that his time on the show was ending.

She added: "Because I'm such a huge fan of his, when it hit John Slattery I was very moved by that.

"He's been one of my favorite people to work with over the past few years.

"Every time I've gotten a scene with him, which hasn't been too many times, I've been so happy and so honoured to work with him.

"To go through that emotional experience with somebody like him who you admire is something I'll never forget."

Now 'Mad Men' is ending, Elisabeth has been linked with a role on HBO show 'True Detective' but insists there currently isn't any truth in the speculation.

She said: "Obviously I'm a fan of HBO, but who isn't? They seem to always do some really good stuff over there.

"It's super flattering, I'm just as surprised as anyone else. Everyone else seems to know more than I do. It's always a flattering thing when anyone thinks you can do something that has been done really well before."
