Sam Smith climbed to the top of The O2 last night 19th of August 2014

The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker surprised his dad with a birthday treat when he took him and the rest of his family to do the 'Up at the O2' tour, which involves climbing across the entire roof of the iconic dome-shaped building in South London while taking in breathtaking views of the historic city

Taking to his Instagram account, the 22-year-old singer posted an image of him and his family - including his two sisters, mother and father - at the top, alongside the caption: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD X (sic)."

Sam also posted a number of other pictures of his evening of thrill-seeking, including one in which he shows off the safety harnesses they had to don for the climb and another of him with his arms around one of his sisters while at the viewing platform at the top.

Meanwhile, the British singer-songwriter recently confessed he "s**t" his pants when he came face to face with 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star Kim Kardashian West.

He admitted: "I s**t my pants when I met Kim Kardashian because I've been watching their whole series.

"She probably wears a lot of make-up but she looks like she doesn't, she was natural."
