Sir Cliff Richard's 'I Still Believe In You' is set to enter the UK top 10 singles chart

The 73-year-old singer - whose property in Berkshire, South East England was searched by police last week in relation to an alleged historical sex offence - has received support from loyal fans online in the wake of the allegations, who have started a social media campaign to get the 1992 hit back into the charts

It was reported the single was just 500 copies off entering the UK Top 40 last night and is predicted to continue to climb into the Top 10 by the weekend, reports The Sun newspaper.

Despite the serious allegations against the star, the BBC insist that if the single makes it into Sunday's (24.08.14) BBC Radio 1 Chart show, they will not mention the fan campaign or the ongoing investigation.

A spokesman said: "We will treat it like any other record."

Meanwhile, Cliff is said to have been angered by how long police are taking to investigate the child abuse allegations made against him.

The 60s star has strongly denied claims he sexually assaulted a young boy at an event in 1985, and he and his team will reportedly demand an explanation as to why the investigation has dragged on "for so long".

A source said: "Sir Cliff and his team want explanations as to why the investigation has gone on for so long and why they burst into his home without warning."

The 'Summer Holiday' hitmaker is said to be keen to clear his name over the allegations, and he has felt "publicly humiliated" since the police raid on his home.

The insider added: "Sir Cliff feels publicly humiliated by the events of the past few days and is determined that this will not be repeated when he comes back to face the music.

"He wants to retain a sense of dignity in this whole very distressing situation."
