Jim Carrey fell off the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday night.

The 52-year-old comedian slipped and stumbled backwards towards the audience as he pranced around with a scarf whilst presenting the Best Pop Video prize with his 'Dumb and Dumber To' co-star Jeff Daniels, 59.

However, the funnyman quickly jumped back on to his feet and joked the tumble was part of their routine.

He quipped: "I meant to do that!"

Jeff added: "It was planned! We rehearsed that."

Jim, who had the audience in hysterics as he came on stage singing Sia's 'Chandelier', used the scary fall to his advantage by adding another trip into the routine.

He said: "That was amazing! Let me try it again," before somersaulting backwards onto the floor.

After composing themselves following the energetic performance, Jim and Jeff then presented Ariana Grande with the gong for her 'Problem'

    video.

Meanwhile, the 'Kick-Ass 2' star's blunder wasn't the only mishap to happen during the show as Nicki Minaj had a major wardrobe malfunction whilst performing 'Bang Bang' with Ariana and Jessie J.

The rapper was forced to hold her little black dress together with her hands in the hope of retaining her modesty after she failed to complete her costume change following her earlier performance of her raunchy hit 'Anaconda.'
