Britney Spears' father has allegedly bought the video of her boyfriend cheating on her.

Jamie Spears, who has controlled the singer's personal and professional affairs since her breakdown in 2008, reportedly forked out a "substantial amount" for the clip of David Lucado canoodling with another woman in order to prevent the clip from going public.

Jamie's representative told TMZ.com: "He took the action to protect his daughter from David and from the embarrassment of the video going public. The video is under lock and key and will never be seen again."

The 32-year-old beauty's dad reportedly phoned her immediately after he had secured the video and told her he had something she needed to see.

Britney, who has been dating David for 18 months, reportedly dumped her cheating boyfriend as soon as she had witnessed the evidence of his disloyal antics.

It is not known whether another copy of the clip has been made but Jamie will allegedly sue for copyright infringement if anyone posts or publishes the footage.

Meanwhile, David is still hoping that he will be able to patch things up with the "heartbroken" star.

A source said: "David is very, very in love with Britney. This is unfortunate and he hopes that it all works out."

Britney has two sons Sean Preston, eight, and Jayden James, seven, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
