Kerry Washington thinks motherhood is "wonderful."

The 37-year-old actress welcomed her first child Isabelle Amarachi into the world with her husband Nnamdi Asomugha in April and is enjoying watching the little one reach new milestones "all the time."

Speaking to PEOPLE.com, she said: "[Motherhood is] wonderful. We just continue to feel very blessed."

The 'Scandal' star has bounced back into shape really quickly after giving birth and credits her love of Pilates for helping her lose the baby weight.

She explained: "It's such a great way to get in shape in a loving way.

I feel like I'm both challenging myself and healing my body at the same time."

However, Kerry insists she's still got a bit more to do before she's back to her pre-baby figure but she's not in a rush and is enjoying exercising and healthy eating.

She said: "I've still got some work to do."

Meanwhile, the stunning star previously admitted she struggled to cope with the physical challenges of starring as Olivia Pope in the ABC drama 'Scandal' whilst she was pregnant but she believes the experience has made her a better actress.

She said: "The season really broke me. I'm a Type A actor who likes to have it all figured out going in, but suddenly I had no idea where this woman was going to go next. I had to jump in without everything being perfect. I felt like I had been in control playing the character, but it all got taken away from me last season. That meant my acting toolbox had to be upgraded. I had to trade in my screwdriver and hammer for a Black and Decker power tool."
