George Clooney feels "pretty damn great" after marrying Amal Alamuddin.

The 53-year-old star gushed he is "looking forward to everything" in his life after tying the knot to the 36-year-old lawyer in Venice, Italy, on Saturday at the historic Aman Canal Grande hotel, where the pair shared a lengthy kiss after exchanging traditional vows.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine in the US, in conjunction with HELLO! magazine in the UK, he said: "Marriage feels pretty damn great. We're looking forward to everything."

The couple exchanged platinum rings as they wed in front of around 100 guests, including Hollywood actor Matt Damon and U2 frontman Bono, during the 30-minute ceremony.

Amal's mother Baria praised George's "wit" and "generosity" and described him as "perfect" in a speech at the event.

She explained: "I said, 'George, we love you truly, deeply and sincerely. We enjoy your charm, your wit, intelligent conversation and generosity. You are simply perfect.'

"George and Amal radiated love all night. The wedding was so unbelievably special, it was legendary.

"These three days – the friends, the families, the atmosphere, everything – will stay with me all the rest of my life."

George's father Nick Clooney, who attended the wedding with wife Nina, also made a speech during the ceremony, during which he heaped praise on the couple.

He said: "George and Amal present us with ... belief that in this place and at this moment, love is alive and well."

Amal looked amazing in a custom Oscar de la Renta French lace wedding dress, while George wore a black Giorgio Armani suit and the designer admitted it was a "privilege" to dress his good friend on his wedding day.

He said: "It is a privilege and a pleasure for me to dress him for this occasion, in which he stars in the most important role: that of the groom.

"[Giorgio is] the class act of all class acts. He's been a good friend for many years and the night wouldn't be complete without him."

The couple enlisted Nora Sagal, the daughter of friends, to sing Cole Porter's 'Why Shouldn't I?' for their first dance, and she also performed Irving Berlin's song 'Always' at the event.

George and Amal also underwent a civil ceremony at Palazzo Ca'Loredan, an official council building in the city, yesterday (29.09.14) to legally marry in accordance with Italian laws.

The ceremony was officiated by the 'Monuments Men' star's friend, former Rome Mayor Walter Viltroni, who also presided over the wedding on Saturday.

The couple's weekend-long celebrations began on Friday with bachelor and bachelorette parties, before their wedding a day later.
