Bryan Singer is "very excited" to become a father for the first time.

The 'X-Men' director - who announced he is bisexual earlier this year - has confirmed he and "best friend" Michelle Clunie, 44, will welcome a baby into the world in early 2015 after "trying for the last two" years, but it is thought they are not in a relationship.

A spokesperson for the 49-year-old filmmaker told E! News: "I can confirm that Michelle Clunie and Bryan Singer are happily expecting a baby together in early 2015."

It was previously reported that Bryan agreed to pay 'Queer As Folk' actress Michelle $1 million to be a surrogate mother, but they are planning to raise the child together.

The director's spokesperson added: "Best friends for 25 years, mother and father are both very excited about the upcoming birth and look forward to co-parenting the child together. The pair have been planning this baby for years and have been trying for the last two."

Byran previously predicted he would settle down with a man.

During an interview with Out magazine in May, he said: "I'm quite bisexual. In the last five years, I've had two girlfriends - one for two years, one for eight months...In the end, it's probably going to be a guy. I emotionally lean towards male relationships, so I'm happy to say I'm gay, too, if it's a one-syllable, easy answer."

The announcement is good news for Bryan, who successfully cleared his name after being investigated for two separate sexual assault incidents earlier this year.
