Elizabeth Pena died from complications caused by alcohol abuse.
The 'La Bamba' actress passed away aged 55 in Los Angeles last week following a brief illness and it has now emerged she was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver "due to alcohol".

According to website TMZ, Elizabeth had had the disease for months but it became acute shortly before her death.
The site obtained a copy of the 'Modern Family' star's death certificate which said she had acute gastrointestinal bleeding hours before her death, which caused her heart to stop.
The 'American Dad' actress' manager had previously said she died of natural causes following a brief illness.
Elizabeth had recently finished filming the action series 'Matador' for the El Rey network - who recently said they were "deeply saddened" by the loss of the actress.
They said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague, Elizabeth Pena.
"She was a role model, a truly extraordinary performer and an inspiration in every sense of the word. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth's family and friends during this difficult time. She ?will be deeply missed."
Elizabeth leaves behind her two children and husband Hans Rolla, reports Variety.
