Chaka Khan insists Rihanna has a "beautiful" enough voice to sell music without using her body to do so.

The 61-year-old singer/songwriter doesn't believe it is "totally necessary" for the 26-year-old singer and the likes of Ariana Grande to feel the need to strip off in their music videos or in photoshoots in order to sell their songs, but can see why they do because the music industry "has changed" since her day.

When asked about Ariana and Rihanna using their bodies to sell their music, she said: "The thing about those girls is that they don’t need to do all that.

"Rihanna at least has a beautiful voice and she could probably sell records without showing off her skin.

"Problem is the industry has changed since back in my day. The business is so different now.

"It used to be audio and now it’s visual so I can see why they do it, but it’s not totally necessary."

While a lot has changed since Chaka's heyday in the 1970s, the star appears to be as popular as ever because the singer - who has been married three times - revealed fans often still pop the question to her.

When asked what the craziest thing a fan has said to her is, she added to Ahlan! magazine: "Lots of crazy stuff. Normally I have a few guys asking me to marry them, 'You have to be my wife,' or 'Chaka why can’t we run away together and get hitched.' That’s pretty normal for me now so I would say that’s the craziest thing ever."
