Mel B's estranged mother is relieved she "will never suffer a vile abusive" phone call from Stephen Belafonte again.

Andrea Brown, who fell out with the former Spice Girls singer after she expressed concern about her husband in 2007, admits she has lost seven pounds since Mel, 39, was hospitalised with crippling stomach pains last week, amid rumours she has ended her marriage to the film producer.

She wrote on Twitter: "Little good news 4 me lost half a stone in 1 week+ will never suffer a vile abusive 3am call from stephan Belafonti again (sic)!!"

Andrea later fuelled allegations Mel, who appeared to have bruises and scratches on her body when she returned to 'The X Factor' on Sunday night (14.12.14), had been abused, tweeting: "On average It takes 30 beatings 4 a woman to leave abusive man how sad more should b done 4 these victims (sic)!!"

Stephen recently blasted claims he had assaulted or cheated on his spouse but admitted they have been arguing.

He said: "I had nothing to do with hurting my wife. I did not touch Mel. I didn't hit her. I wasn't cheating or anything. There was no girl involved.

"Everyone gets in arguments. And then stuff calms down and you think about your life.

"I love my wife. I care about my wife. I'd take a bullet for her."

The film producer, 39, flew back to California with their daughter, Madison, three, on Sunday.
