Mel B thinks someone is trying to "wreck her marriage".

An allegation was made to the police that the former Spice Girl was "held hostage" in her own home in Kensington, West London, last month - just a day before she was admitted to hospital with crippling stomach pains - but a friend of the star has now revealed that it was a false accusation made by an enemy.

They said: "Mel is ¬absolutely livid. The ¬allegations are completely false and she has no idea why somebody would want to do this.

"She can only assume someone is determined to wreck her marriage. But she won’t let them."

The 39-year-old singer is now desperately searching for who made the accusations to the police and already has her "suspicions" of who it might be.

Her friend added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "She has her ¬suspicions where the allegations have come from, and the people involved have a vendetta against Stephen [Belafonte; her husband].

"They hope dragging his name through the mud like this will damage the marriage. It’s outrageous that someone has tried to cause so much harm to their relationship.

"Only Mel and Stephen know what goes on behind closed doors in their own home, and they are both adamant this incident did not take place.

"She will be telling the police exactly that at the first possible opportunity - and obviously that will be the end of the matter.

"Like every couple of course there are ups and downs, but for somebody to be trying so hard to derail their ¬marriage is heartbreaking."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson has stated that the allegations made against Stephen are "totally untrue".

They said: "Mel did not make these allegations and is adamant they are totally untrue. She will be telling the police they are completely false."
