Kevin Costner was made to have a 60th birthday party.

The actor - who reached the milestone on January 18 - wasn't too keen on celebrating his big day but was convinced by his wife, Christine Baumgartner, and his eldest daughter, Anne, 30, to have a bash.

He said: "I had about 100 friends come and it was a good night. I didn't want to do it; my daughter [and] my wife made me do it."

Despite his initial reservations, the '3 Days To Kill' star revealed he and his guests partied into the early hours of the morning.

He explained: "This one went all the way through the night. When they finally kicked us out of the place, we ended back in our house in the kitchen and we made breakfast about four in the morning.

"Some people wanted breakfast, some people were still drinking vodka."

Meanwhile, Kevin - who has seven children, Anne, 30, Lily, 28, Joseph, 26 and Liam, 18, from previous relationships and Cayden, seven, Hayes, five and Grace, four, with Christine - has revealed that he received a really "cool" present from his daughter.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: "My daughter did a cool thing, she had 60 of my friends write me really personal letters and put them in a treasure box and kind of handed it to me that night.

"And I thought, how cool that your friends get to talk to you and wherever I go, I take four or five of those letters and kind of just revisit my life with those people. It kind of beat all the other stuff. She brought it out in a treasure chest, 'Here you go, 60 letters.' "
