Hilary Duff has joined the search for her friend's missing dog.

The 27-year-old actress is one of a number of celebrities on the lookout for pal Julia Cohen's adorable Maltese pooch named Charlie, who was allegedly seen on CCTV footage being taken by a child and a pregnant woman dressed in yellow.

Alongside an image of the missing pet, Hilary wrote on her Instagram account: "PLEASE HELP US FIND CHARLIE!!!! He is missing. Last seen being picked up by a pregnant woman and her son. White Maltese. Red collar. Please call!! (310) 860-1650! Or contact @switchboutique (sic)."

Julia owns Beverly Hills store Switch with her sister and claims her dog Charlie is "basically famous" in the area and "just wants him back", offering a $2,000 for his safe return.

She told Los Angeles' ABC7 News: "Everyone in the neighbourhood knows him. He's basically famous."

George Lopez - who voices the dog Papi in 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua' - is also campaigning for Charlie's safe return.

Writing to his two million followers on Twitter, he said: "No questions asked, please if anyone has any information, please call! (sic)"

Speaking to ABC7, he added: "We're trying to find him, so Hilary Duff's got one side of the town covered and George Lopez, I'll throw it out to the other side of the town."

Hilary expressed her sadness at having Charlie go missing and claimed the alleged dog-napping had caused "a lot" of hearts to break.

She said: "Charlie's a staple here. Everyone in Beverly Hills knows him. He sits outside the front of the store. He never ventures too far to the left, to the right. Anything would be really helpful. We have a lot of broken hearts tonight."

The Beverly Hills Police Department have also been drafted in on the search, but anyone who has any information about Charlie's whereabouts is urged to call Julia at her Switch store on (310) 860-1650.
