Nick Jonas says questions about his sex life when he was a teenager are the "hardest" thing he's had to endure since becoming famous.

The musician shot to fame as part of The Jonas Brothers - which was also comprised of his siblings Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas - several years ago and at the height of their popularity they became known for wearing purity rings to signify they were abstaining from sex.

Nick, now 22, admits it made him uncomfortable to have people commenting and making judgements about his bedroom behaviour when he was so young.

Addressing the Oxford University Union on Monday night (23.02.15), he said: "Living your life in front of people is incredibly uncomfortable for many reasons. You go through your awkward stage at some point and ... everybody's hair looks dumb and everybody thinks an Ed Hardy T-shirt is a good idea.

"For me, the hardest part of all of it was the emphasis on sex and sex life and how at 13 or 14 years old and because of the detachment of seeing someone on TV or the computer it was OK to comment on a 13 or 14 year old's sex life. You wouldn't do that in a normal setting but because I'm living a public life as a celebrity (people did), that was hard. That became a big topic... we all went through a journey."

Nick - who is in a relationship with Miss Universe Olivia Culpo - and his brothers worked with Disney throughout their time as a band appearing in Disney Channel movie 'Camp Rock' and the sequel and their own series 'JONAS'.

The 'Jealous' singer accepts he and his siblings became role models because of their association with the family entertainment company but he says it's important to remember they were playing "characters".

He explained: "I don't think Disney creates role models; I think it creates characters and it just so happens that there are real people that are those characters. Everyone when they choose to be an actor isn't always a role model, that's a role you have to decide for yourself. There's a willing to do that and to choose to have that responsibility or not. I respect that people look up to me and I thank them for that but also I'm human and you know, I have faults as well ... I'm a role model to a certain degree."

Nick is the latest star to address the Oxford Union at the prestigious university in England. Previous visitors include Morgan Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Michael Jackson and Shakira.
