Uma Thurman would've sent her children back if they turned out to be "boring".

The 44-year-old actress - who has kids, Maya, 15, and Levon, 12, with her ex-husband Ethan Hawke, and two-year-old Luna with her former partner Arpad Busson - insists she would've found it "intolerable" if her children didn't have a sense of humour.

She said: "They're much smarter than I am and better behaved. And, thank God, they're funny, too.

"It would be intolerable to me to have a humourless, boring child - I'd have to send it back."

Uma portrays a TV ex ecutive in NBC drama 'The Slap', which tells the story of the aftermath of a party when a man slaps his friend's unruly child, but the actress insists she doesn't have any issues when it comes to telling her kids off.

She added: "I've never had any problem with disciplining my children. They are so smart and intelligent that I never had trouble communicating with them."

The star admitted her two older children weren't sure about having another sibling in the family before she gave birth to Luna, but they see her as their "little buddy" now.

She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: "They had some trepidation at first, 'Oh my God, Mom's going to have another child.' But now that she's here, she's this amazing little character and they both love her.

    "She's their little buddy."
