Jennifer Garner claims she is a gardening "geek"

The 'Danny Collins' actress - who has children Violet, nine, Seraphina, six, and Samuel, three, with husband Ben Affleck - is passionate about growing her own vegetables and fruit because she wants her young family to appreciate healthy food.

The 43-year-old actress said: "We talk about our food. We grow food. We talk about what goes into it and how hard it is. They plant it, they water it. We take pictures next to it. I'm a geek."

The 'Dallas Buyers Club' star, who attended an event for Just Label It, an organisation fighting for food companies to label their products containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), with Gisele Bundchen, 34, in Los Angeles on Monday night (20.04.15), credits the Brazilian supermodel for inspiring her to get more involved in the food industry.

She told E! News: "My friend Gisele and I are fed up with being kept in the dark about GMO and non-GMO labelling. I got involved because she said, 'Do you know what's happening?' She's a firecracker. She said, 'You have to educate yourself.' "

Gisele, who has two children, Benjamin, five, and Vivian, two, with husband Tom Brady, added: "This is a very important cause to me as an individual, as a parent and as a mother.

"Food sustains our bodies, minds and souls, and as a mother, I feel it is my responsibility to know what I am feeding my family. We need transparency in our food industry."
