Beyonce and Kim Kardashian West sported see-through dresses to the 2015 Met Gala

The 'Crazy In Love' hitmaker and the reality TV star weren't afraid to show some skin as they hit the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, with Beyonce, 33, donning a sheer, gold Givenchy gown with nothing but intricate beading detail to protect her modesty.

The blonde beauty, who attended the annual event with her husband Jay Z, wore her locks scraped back into a high pony tail which fell in curls to her shoulder.

Meanwhile, Kim, 34, opted for a daring, white, Peter Dundas for Roberto Cavalli number which was inspired by the embellished feathered creation Cher wore to the Gala in 1974.

The raven-haired beauty - who arrived with her spouse, rapper Kanye West - later took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself with the 'Believe' hitmaker after bumping into her at the event.

She wrote: "Tonight's inspiration! Cher at the 1st ever Met Gala! I just met her and told her this photo was my inspiration for my dress tonight! She is so beautiful! So happy I met her!"

She captioned a throwback photo of Cher wearing the gown: "This beauty, this icon! I'm so so happy I met her!!!! We spoke about our amazing Armenian journeys! And that Bob Mackie gown she wore to the Met 1974.(sic)"

Kim also posted a selection of selfies with stars including Lady Gaga, Madonna and producer Diplo before sharing a shot of her famous derriere walking alongside Jennifer Lopez, who was also trying out the sheer trend in a red, Atelier Versace dress.

In contrast to Kim's revealing look, Rihanna turned heads in a voluminous yellow cape by Chinese couture designer Guo Pei.

The 'Rude Boy' singer, who finished off her eye-catching outfit with silver heals and a headdress, struggled to make it into the event in the extravagant garment and had to be helped up the stairs by three aids.
